Earth Hour - let's turn off the lights

The world's most widespread environmentalevent, Earth Hour, will once again take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 8:30 to 9:30 PM. Forum will participate by turning off the Shopping Centre's façade lighting and some illuminated signs for one hour in support of the environment. Read more and join us!

The global climate campaign organized annually by WWF encourages individuals, businesses, cities, municipalities, and other organizations to switch off their lights for one hour at the same time to raise awareness about climate change. Through this symbolic act, everyone can express their concern about the state of the environment and the climate crisis to decision-makers. Turn off the lights, light some candles, and enjoy a peaceful moment for the climate!

Not just talk, but real energy actions

We believe it is important to take action for the environment and responsibility in many different ways. Forum has its own solar power plant on the roof, and the Shopping Centre is completely carbon neutral in terms of its operational energy consumption. The remaining share of electricity consumption is produced with emission-free wind power generated at the Lakiakangas wind farm in the municipality of Isojoki. We also review the emissions caused by property maintenance and operations and strive to minimize them.

We have received strong evaluations in environmental certifications as well. The Forum property holds a BREEAM In-Use environmental certificate at the Excellent level. In addition, in the international sustainability assessment GRESB, we received the full 5-star rating and were named Global Sector Leader in our comparison group. The GRESB assessment covers all areas of corporate responsibility, including environmental impact, social responsibility, governance, and sustainability factors.

Enabling responsible initiatives

In addition to events such as Earth Hour and Itämeripäivä, which promote environmental awareness, we also act as an enabler and take actions in the area of social responsibility. Our long-term cooperation with the Joulupuu charity collection enables fundraising and donations for the organization’s target groups. We are also in our sixth year as an official Helsinki Pride partner, promoting the message of equality. We carry out extensive charitable work and want to help ensure that many social challenges become visible and addressed.

More efficient recycling and smarter choices

At the end of 2025, the recycling rate at the Shopping Centre was 54%, meaning that more than half of the waste generated at Forum is recycled or reused. The remaining portion is utilized in energy production. The overall recovery rate is 100%. If sorted waste is not suitable for material recycling, it is used for energy recovery.

We have dozens of stores, cafés, and restaurants, so our role is significant not only as an actor but also as an enabler and influencer. We want to provide our tenants and visitors with spaces where everyone has the opportunity to make more sustainable and responsible choices. Many of our shops also emphasize sustainability, which we are delighted to see.

Two years ago, we also began cooperation with the Kierrätyskeskus by bringing two Boksi donation points to the P level. At these donation points, people can bring intact and usable items for reuse, helping to save valuable natural resources and support the circular economy.

Forum is part of a larger whole

Forum is owned by the real estate investment company Sponda, which shares first place as the world’s most responsible real estate company in its peer group in the 2025 global GRESB assessment. We have also set targets for indirect emissions across our value chain. Our climate targets are approved by the Science Based Targets initiative, and we promote biodiversity in our properties and development projects in accordance with our biodiversity strategy.
